Creating a wiki-style HivePress

What I’m trying to build is a website for people who collect Halo (the video game franchise) memorabilia.

I’d like it to be similar to a wiki where there are categories, sub categories, then individual items that will link to their own page, but also like a directory/listing set up.

I would like for users to be able to sign up, and save items to their own sharable “Collection”. I’d like for them to have the ability to leave reviews on items as well.

Items could be added through an admin portal. Ability to select categories and sub categories, add up to 5 photos, along with a description (no character limit), and an option for an Amazon Affiliate link (not all items would have one).

The project is called “The Halo Collectors”.

Additional pages would just be an About/Contact page, and a page for users to submit new items for review.

The users wouldn’t need much of a profile, just their name, their collection, and a way to share their collection with others via a personal link.

The admin would be the account that needs the most ability since it would be in control of the different item listings.

I do NOT want users to be able to create a new product page or add to the project without it first having to go through the admin (me).

I had hired someone a couple months ago to develop this, and they basically built me a store like Amazon itself. I am not a store, and she doesn’t seem to understand what the parameters and goal of the project were, despite explaining it multiple times, and receiving multiple iterations of her work. I’m cutting ties and calling it a loss at this point.

Hi @Matthew_Huffman,

Welcome to the community. I’m not HivePress staff, but I feel your passion for your project through your words.

Sorry to hear your first developer didn’t understand what you were looking to achieve. From what I understand about HivePress and from your post, this does all sound achievable. However, not all of this will be possible out of the box, and you’ll need to hire another developer if you’re not one yourself. However, the good news is HivePress have recently launched a new customisation service, so if you submit your project details they’ll get back to you soon.

Cheers,
