My listing won't publish because it wants a location

You’ll find that when the staff do get a chance to respond, you’ll receive a more useful reply if you can provide as much detail as possible about the issue you’re experiencing.

  1. Can you confirm if you’ve installed and activated the Geolocation extension, for example?

  2. Have you followed the documentation and tutorials to ensure you’ve set it up correctly with the Google API/Mapbox APIs?

  3. If so, has it been working as intended before the issue you’re describing?

  4. Have you made any other recent changes to your site?

  5. Are you using third-party customization or code snippets in your site?

  6. If it’s a bug you can reproduce, list the steps.

…You see, there’s many various strings in which one can pull at that could help resolve your issue much faster without a huge amount of guesswork on the part of the HivePress staff - so, please do help yourself and staff by providing as much detail as possible.

Copy that, thank you Chris. I really don’t want to use that feature. I never did before, I would just type a location there and it would publish fine. I have not made any changes to my site since it was working. Maybe they have made an update that requires all the Google API integration? Thanks again, Brian

Could you please confirm if you are using the latest version of the Geolocation plugin? When you say “won’t let me enter a location,” could you clarify what exactly happens? For example, does the text disappear after you enter it, do no characters appear when you type in the field, or is there a different issue? Screenshots or screencats can also be beneficial.

Also, please ensure that your map API key is configured correctly: How to get a Google Maps API key - HivePress Help Center or How to get a Mapbox API key - HivePress Help Center. We regularly update and improve HivePress and its products, and sometimes adjustments are needed for security or other reasons.

Thanks for getting back to me kseniia. It lets me type the name, I type in Las Vegas, but when I go to update, it takes me back to that field. It won’t update, so it won’t let me make it featured and verified, so that it comes to the top of my results. I really don’t want to use any geolocation or any Google Maps or any of those features. Just want it nice and simple and working. Thank you for any advice

If you don’t need geolocation features or search by location, and you only want to display the location for informational purposes, please consider creating a custom attribute named Location of the Text type. Make sure it’s set as editable, required, and assigned to the display area.

Alternatively, you can set up a map provider, which we recommend since geolocation features can be useful. In the current version, there’s no option to add custom text to the geolocation field, as it doesn’t contain location data, you need to select a location from the drop-down list instead.
