Progress bar when uploading images

Can a feature be added to show a progress bar when the user is uploading image? At the moment it can take 10-20 seconds for each large image to upload and it’s impossible for the user to know if it’s working without just sitting back and waiting.

This question was asked last year (Can you add a progress bar?)
And later requested as a feature (Show progress bar when uploading files)

But the question and feature request are closed and I haven’t seen an update if this is possible yet.
