Unfortunately, this is not possible via page customize, it will require CSS tweaks.
Is it possible to put the sidebar at least? Or implement the width improvement in a future theme update? Because when browsing via desktop, the user experience is not good, leaving the article narrow with a lot of white space on both sides.
