is it possible to customize the Messages plugin so that when you receive a new message you get a notification about it not after the page refresh, but for example after a few seconds?

is it possible to customize or add a code that with the help of ajax for example, will update messages every few seconds, perhaps a minute? or how to add such functionality if you are only on the Messages page?

if not, what can you recommend to solve this problem?
