Categories / Attributes & Filter relationships

I am trying to create a rental website with three different types of rentals, say (Houses, Condos and Villas). I can’t seem to build this out without hitting a problem.

#1 Setup - Three Listing Categories
All of the three categories have the same attributes. This works “ok” but there is a lot of flashing when a new listing is entered and the attributes refresh. The bigger problem is the default filter sidebar which doesn’t populate until a category is selected. That is really confusing.

#2 Setup - One Listing Category (Rental Property)
Creating a new listing entry works okay because I can default the value. However the filter on the listings page has the same problem with a default of…

  • All Categories
    o Rental Properties

#3 Setup - No Categories
This just causes all kinds of problems to overcome.

Questions

  1. Is it possible to default the Category on the Listings page? Even if there is a single category, it defaults to All.
  2. With no categories defined in Hivepress, custom listing attributes won’t display in the New Listing page correct? ie, you need at least one category correct?

Check it our here, just change the category in the filter…

Hi,

  1. If you are referring to the Listing Page, unfortunately, there is no option to pre-select a category there, but as a workaround, you can add the category itself to the menu and name it Listings.

  2. No, the attribute should display correctly if you don’t have any categories, but note that it should be unassigned to categories.

I hope this is helpful to you.
