is there a way to import options for the drop down / selection field , so for example I can import list of countries or nationalities instead of typing it one by one

Unfortunately, there is no such option, but you can use a third-party plugin such as WP ALL Import. Please note that this will require field mapping, so I recommend checking out their documentation for more details.
