Customize RentalHive template

Good evening,
Which plugin should I use to change the colors and everything else in the Rentalhive template? I’m not talking about the “customize” option, which is quite limited in terms of modifications; you can’t change much.

I’d like to have a dark theme.

I’ve tried one or two plugins, but Rentalhive doesn’t accept them.

Any ideas for customizing my template properly?

Or do I have to use pure HTML and CSS?

Thanks everyone, and happy holidays!

Hi @Ori,

Using custom CSS is usually the best approach, but if you’re uncomfortable with coding yourself, you may find the HivePress AI can help answer the majority of your questions and help tweak things accordingly.

Check it out here:

You may also find a plugin like YellowPencil useful for helping customise your site. It’s like a no-code visual CSS editor that works with HivePress.

Check it out here:

I hope this helps!

Cheers,
Chris :victory_hand:

Thank you so much, I’ll try that. I’d already looked and tried YellowPencil, but Rentalhive doesn’t accept it.
Thanks again for your reply

Hi @Ori,

Hmm, that seems strange. I thought YellowPencil was a recommended plugin by the team. However, I’ve only ever tried it with ListingHive myself - I didn’t end up using it either, but from what I can remember you use the tool on a page-by-page basis; rather than it adding new tools to the Apperance > Customizer screen.

AI will likely be able to help get you 90% of the way, but if you’re stuck on something, drop a screenshot of which part you’re wanting to recolour, (ideally, a link to the site, as well), and tell us what colour you want. (E.g #000000 for black.) - myself or someone else in the community will then be able to easily provide a CSS snippet for you.

Cheers,

That’s kind of you, indeed Yellow Pencil doesn’t work. I’m currently looking into using AI. It customizes quite a few things, but it will require some fine-tuning because there are sections, like “Customer Reviews,” where the background remains white and doesn’t match the rest, which is in dark colors.

But with a little work, it should be fine, little by little. AI is a good thing; I wasn’t familiar with it, apart from the classic ChatGPT and similar programs. Have a good evening and thank you for your help. I’ll be back if I get stuck anywhere.

Hi @Ori,

Sorry to hear that. Perhaps HivePress will look into how they might be able to allow for its use again in a future update. Nevertheless, there’s certainly other options!

I guess it depends how much you’re looking to customise, but the HivePress AI is trained on the existing extensions, themes and documentation, etc. - so, it can be a bit more accurate with some of its answers. As always, take AI answers with a pinch of salt, though. They’re not perfect!

I found this video for you that I thought you might find useful. It’s essentially a crash course on how you can use your browser to help figure out how to tweak things, and you don’t have to worry about breaking anything if you’re just using the Inspect tool, too!

I hope this helps!

Cheers,

Hi,

Could you please let us know what specifically isn’t working for you in Yellow Pencil? We tested it on our end and were able to make changes successfully.

It’s possible that the CSS rules Yellow Pencil is generating aren’t overriding the specific element styles you’re trying to change. Since Yellow Pencil is a general-purpose styling plugin, it may not account for all the CSS specificity nuances in every theme or plugin.

If you can see the CSS rules being applied in your browser’s inspector, try adding !important to the rules in Yellow Pencil—this often helps override more specific styles.

Regarding your request, these changes can be implemented with custom CSS. You can try our AI assistant or any other AI tool. They’re usually helpful with tasks like this, especially if you provide the specific CSS classes you want to modify. Alternatively, you can reach out to freelancers for assistance.

Thank you so much for your reply, Kseniia.

Sorry about the delayed response.
I admit I uninstalled Yellow Pencil. I might try again later.

However, I did try the AI, and it’s simply amazing.

Well, it’s a lot of work because it changes certain things, and you can’t see the text very well because you have to think of everything.

But little by little, it’s quite impressive, thank you.

On another note, just one question: Isn’t it too resource-intensive or not recommended to use all this CSS in custom mode?

Thanks

Ori

If you’re referring to custom CSS snippets added via Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS, then unless there is a very large amount of CSS (really a lot), this should not slow down the site. In most cases, performance issues are caused by PHP snippets, especially if they query data from the database. CSS is simply loaded on the first visit and then cached on subsequent page loads, so it usually has a minimal impact on performance.

Hope I helped with your request.

Perfect answer that answered my question perfectly.

I was worried about overloading my website.
Thanks again a thousand times for this explanation  Happy New Year everyone!
