Hello HivePress Team,
I’m building a doctors marketplace using ListingHive with Bookings, Messages, Requests, and Zoom integration. Patients book consultations and exchange medical files (lab results, imaging) with doctors.
Compliance Requirement: My local health policy mandates end-to-end encryption and encryption at rest for all patient data, messages, and file attachments.

Planned Setup:
• Using ListingHive, HivePress Messages & Requests, with file attachments enabled, zoom integration for video consultations.
Key Questions:

  1. Can HivePress Messages/Requests support end-to-end encryption, or does this require custom development?
  2. File Security: How do I encrypt medical files at rest and prevent unauthorized direct URL access to uploaded documents?
  3. Database Encryption: What methods work with HivePress for encrypting patient data, bookings, and messages in the WordPress database?
  4. HIPAA/Medical Compliance: Do you offer or recommend solutions for healthcare-grade security?
  5. Recommended Plugins: Are there third-party WordPress encryption plugins compatible with HivePress for this use case?
    This is business-critical before launch. I’m open to purchasing additional extensions, if any, or using compatible third-party solutions.

I do not think it is feasable what you want. You want the functionality which is not designed with strong security in mind to be secure and i am talking about wordpress, on which HivePress is running. For what you want it should be the other way around. A secure foundation on which you build the functionality.

Also, Hivepress in its current state is not even GDPR compliant. Even though i reported the issue months ago Indirect data leak of email adress and Vulnerability in the extension functions - #12 by JSHBV , the issue has not been fixed in the core, which is worrysome.

The first point you mentioned will require customization.

Regarding encrypted files, there might be a workaround if you’re working with PDF documents. You could add a feature to make them password-protected. For example, in the EU it’s common practice when banks or hospitals send documents to password-protect them using your personal ID or document number as the password.

Regarding compliance requirements, unfortunately we can’t provide specific guidance as we’re not familiar with the particular compliance standards you need to meet. We rely on WordPress’s database and security features for user management and related functionality. This means that third-party plugins that work with the WordPress API to encrypt/decrypt data between the database and users might work for some of your requirements.
