Purpose of Listing - Expiration date

Hi,
what is the purpose of the field Expiration Date on the listing admin page, is this just for information only or will it actually trigger something, such as stop listings to appear on the front page after expiry?

Hi,

After the expiration of the listing, the listing automatically switches to draft status.
