Safari YouTube Display And Submission Problems

I’m seeing two issues that only happen in Safari (macOS and iOS) across my HivePress sites. Chrome, Firefox, and Edge work normally.

1. YouTube embeds fail only in Safari

Inside HivePress listings, YouTube videos show:

Error 153 – Video player configuration error

Safari won’t load the embedded player, but:

  • Rumble works

  • TikTok works

  • Vimeo works

  • MP4 works

  • Chrome works

This happens with both youtube.com and youtube-nocookie.com embeds. It also happens on iPhone Safari, so it’s not a Mac-specific setting.

Example: When a Porsche Macan S Hitched a Ride on a Flatbed Tow Truck at a Rest Area in New Mexico – Cool Car Guy

2. Listing submissions fail only in Safari

When creating a listing in Safari:

  • The form completes

  • Terms & Conditions are checked

  • I click Submit

  • Safari reloads the page (wipes it out)

  • The listing is not saved

Chrome submits the same listing with no issues.

What I’m trying to determine

Has anyone else seen Safari:

  • block HivePress listing submissions, or

  • break YouTube embeds inside HivePress listings?

And if so, did you identify a plugin, header, or configuration that caused it?

Right now, Safari is the only browser showing these problems, and I’m trying to find out whether this is a known conflict or something specific to certain plugins or setups.

Any insight appreciated.

Hi,

Thanks for the details.

If you are using YouTube embeds, then simply adding the YouTube URL to the description or custom field should normally be converted into an embed automatically by WordPress.

Could you please confirm how you are adding the video? Are you inserting just the YouTube URL, or are you adding the iframe embed code directly?

Have you tested listing submission on our demo site: https://listinghive.hivepress.io/? If the issue does not occur there, it may be related to a third-party plugin, theme customization, or another site-specific setting. Since listing submission happens on the backend side, it should not normally depend on the browser.

I’ve tried to test the listing submission flow on your site, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to register because there is an error with reCAPTCHA during the registration process [‘ERROR for site owner: Invalid key type’].

Could you please check the reCAPTCHA settings or temporarily disable it so we can test the flow further?

We’ve checked your site and noticed that the embeds are being lazy-loaded. This is most likely caused by a cache or optimization plugin.

Could you please try temporarily disabling optimization/cache plugins and check the behavior again?

It is also possible that the same plugin affects the listing submission flow. For example, some optimization plugins defer or delay JavaScript execution, which can sometimes cause JavaScript errors and break certain frontend functionality.

Thank you for checking this.

I’m using the HivePress Embed attribute and a simple Code Snippet to control where the video displays on the listing page. I am not using any additional plugins to display videos within listings.

I have now identified and resolved the YouTube Error 153 issue. Thank you for pointing out the lazy loading.

The cause was the Smush plugin. After deactivating and deleting Smush, the YouTube video immediately began displaying correctly in Safari. Smush’s lazy-loading behavior was apparently interfering with the YouTube embed in Safari.

I will also remove Smush from my other HivePress sites to prevent the same issue there.

The listing-submission problem on CarsFreak.com is still unresolved and appears to be a separate issue.

When I submit a listing through Safari:

  • The submit button begins spinning.

  • The page eventually resets to a blank listing form.

  • All entered information is erased.

  • No listing is created or saved.

I can then submit the same listing successfully through Chrome.

One additional detail that may help with troubleshooting:

After the Safari submission fails, I am redirected to:

https://www.carsfreak.com/submit-listing/details/

The form is reset and all of the entered listing information is gone, except for the uploaded image, which remains attached to the form.

No listing is created or saved.

CarsFreak.com is the site where I am currently testing and consistently reproducing this problem. I have not tested every other site because I would first like to identify the cause on the site where the failure is confirmed.

Regarding access, I have the Temporary Login Without Password plugin installed on CarsFreak.com. If you would like to test the submission process directly, I can create a temporary login so the reCAPTCHA registration error does not prevent access.

Please let me know which user role you would need for testing, and I can provide temporary access privately.

Please send temporary WP access to support@hivepress.io with the link to this topic, and we’ll check the submission issue (please send only the link, without login and password). You can create a temporary access link using this plugin.

Sent it.

I also included a 100% off coupon code, so that you can join as a customer to see if the failure is somewhere in the process with Safari at the sign-up level and not allowing a post to go through after a purchase has been executed.

Like it’s going through the process but not submitting it because the system doesn’t think they are qualified to create it as a paying customer.

I don’t think that’s the issue, but I haven’t been able to isolate it. It works fine on Chrome.

Thank you.

Final Update

Both Safari issues now appear to be resolved.

YouTube Error 153

The YouTube problem was caused by the Smush plugin. Smush was lazy-loading the YouTube iframe created through the HivePress Embed attribute.

After deactivating and deleting Smush, the video immediately began displaying correctly in Safari.

Listing Submission in Safari

The listing-submission problem was separate from Smush.

HivePress support tested the submission process on CarsFreak.com in Safari and was unable to reproduce the issue.

I then closed Safari, reopened it and cleared the browsing history and website data. I do not have any Safari extensions installed.

After logging back in, I completed the listing again and Safari submitted it successfully. The image from the previous failed submission was still attached to the form, even though the other listing details had not been saved. After the listing was successfully created, the image no longer appeared when starting a new listing.

In my case, the submission problem appears to have been caused by stale Safari session or website data associated with my login rather than a general HivePress compatibility issue.

The completed listing is displaying properly here:

Thank you to HivePress support for testing the site and identifying the lazy-loaded embed.
