I have created a directory of healthcare providers for my project. I have also created a custom attribute called “Tags” that is populated with comma separated terms for each of the specialties each provider offers. For example one providers “Tags” field is populated with, “Anxiety, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD), Bipolar Disorder, Depression, …”. This fields is searchable in the main search.
Unfortunately, when searching for terms like “Anxiety”, HivePress is only finding some of the providers with this tag. But not all of them. How can I set up the field, or search to successfully final ALL providers with a specific tag.
The site is still in development, but doctors testing the system are noticing they are not coming up in the search. What am I missing?

Could you please tell us a bit more about the Tags attribute you’ve created and how it’s configured? For example, is it a listing or vendor attribute, and is it displayed on the frontend?
I tried searching for the keyword “anxiety” and got five results: Listings | GHPA. I checked the matching profiles, and in each case the word “anxiety” appeared in the profile description rather than in an attribute. Could you also let us know which profiles you expected to appear in the search results but didn’t when searching for “anxiety”?
If this is indeed an attribute, please make sure that it is marked as Indexable, as this is required for the search to include its values.
I’m including links to screenshots of both the “Tags” Attribute settings, and a sample of one of the Listings, showing the Tags field.
To take your example, searching the term “Anxiety”, there are 16 providers with that keyword in their Tags attribute. But it’s only pulling 5 in the search.
I also noticed that the term anxiety is in those 5 providers bios. So, it’s like it not even searching the Tags field.

I just wanted to jump in to say there’s actually a HivePress Tags extension built exactly for this purpose. I’m not sure if you’re aware of it, but it’ll save the headaches and trying to reinvent the wheel!
Thanks for the details. The settings look correct.
If you mark an attribute as indexable, there is no need to enable Display in the filter form. Once an attribute is indexable, the default keyword search field will also search through these values.
Could you please confirm whether you re-saved the listings after marking the attribute as indexable? Indexed fields are refreshed for listings only when the listing is updated. Simply changing the attribute settings does not automatically update the existing listings.
This is the most likely cause of the issue. If this is not the case, please let us know and we’ll investigate further.
As Chris mentioned, you can also consider purchasing the Tags extension if you would like to add tag functionality more easily.
I used Quick Edit to update each listing, just to make sure the listing has been (re) indexed with the data in the Tags field. Unfortunately, the search still does not seem to be including the Tags attribute field in searches. I’m not sure what I’m missing.
I did see Chris’ solicitation to buy the extension. The client is very picky about adding a bunch of annual licenses to their web site budget. If I can make the HivePress base product work, they might be inclined to “go pro” for additional features. But if I can’t get a simple text field to be searchable, they’ll want to use a different solution.
I put considerable setup time into HivePress, and would really love to use it. Any other ideas I can try?
Note: While testing, I noticed that if I change the Provider Type (Category) drop-down between Psychiatric Provider and Psychotherapist (without entering any keywords), the search only shows 5 results for either. But there are 10 Psychotherapist and 18 Psychiatric Providers listings in the system.
Are the search results limited to a certain number of Listings? I don’t see any settings to manage the number of search results returned.
