Smaller images are not cropped

Tell me why do I have to add large photos to get properly cropped? If I add photos already rendered with low weight, then some mish mash with them is done on the product card. One bigger, one smaller. What is it about ?

It’s a common WordPress issue; in WordPress, the themes and plugins register the image sizes and cropping rules, but if the uploaded image is smaller than the registered size, then WordPress will leave it as-is. The default listing image size is 400x300 (on the search and category pages) - it’s hard to find a smaller image nowadays, so most of the uploaded images should be cropped to the same size since they are bigger.
