Vendors are forced to complete Stripe account to post listing / register vendor

No one other than my admin account can create a listing. They receive the following error:

You can only create new accounts if you’ve signed up for Connect, which you can do at Stripe Login | Sign in to the Stripe Dashboard.

Am I missing something?

It sounds like you either need to finalise setting up your Stripe connection, or you have accidentally left the Stripe Connect method selected in the HivePress > Settings > Payouts tab found in the back-end of WordPress.

Hi,

To learn more about how payouts work, please refer to the articles Chris shared. In short, there are three available payout modes, and payouts are processed based on the selected option.

In your case, since auto payouts are enabled, payouts are handled via Stripe Connect. This means that before posting listings, vendors need to set up their Stripe Connect account so they can receive their share of the sales.

Hey ChrisB, thanks for reaching out. I have followed these articles and understand I am using payouts through stripe connect. My stripe account seems to be finalized and ready to work. I can accept payments from listings I have created, and they show up on the dashboard. It is only when I go on a user account and want to create a listing that I receive this error. I understand I am supposed to be taken to the stripe onboarding screen but instead it is saying is saying they need to go to the dashboard to setup a stripe connect account. I am trying to payout to users in a country that is not stripe enabled , however, USD is our local currency and a stripe express account should enable users to receive their balance and then transfer it out to local banks out here. Of course, my main account / business is within the US.

So, in essence the stripe onboarding should take a user to create a stripe connect express account, right? That is where I’m a bit confused why it is asking them to onboard directly through the stripe dashboard.

EDIT: Seems I had to finish some information but on the live side of my stripe account. Went through with that and now I am receiving this error:
You cannot request the `card_payments` capability for accounts in SV. For a list of countries that support `card_payments`, see Stripe global availability . To create an account in SV, see Cross-border payouts | Stripe Documentation .

Is there anyway to remove the card_payments capability?

Glad to hear you’re making some progress. According to this Stripe article here’s how you can add new capabilities. So, you could try following the gist of the guide, but deactivate card_payments instead.

Go to the Connected Account Payment Method Settings Page

To go to the settings page of the Payment methods for your connected accounts, do the following:

  • From the Dashboard, in the upper right corner, select Settings > Connect > Payment Methods.

  • Under Your connected accounts, select Edit Settings.

Result: You can now manage the types of payment methods that users of your connected account can accept.

I assume this will have some knock-on effects, so you should test everything thoroughly afterwards. I’m not very familiar with how Stripe works myself, but the articles that the error message linked you to sounds like they’d be of use, too.

Could you please let me know where exactly the error is displayed? A screenshot would be very helpful.

If the issue appears as a text error when trying to register a new vendor, it may indicate that the API credentials configured in HivePress > Settings > Integrations > Stripe are not from a Stripe Connect account, but from a standard Stripe account. In this case, Stripe cannot create sub-accounts (which are required for vendor payouts), and typically returns an error suggesting the use of a Stripe Connect account (connect.stripe.com).

Please note that being able to accept payments via WooCommerce checkout does not necessarily mean everything is configured correctly for payouts. Standard Stripe accounts support payments, but payouts to vendors require Stripe Connect.

As an alternative, you may consider switching to manual payouts in HivePress > Settings > Payouts. This option requires manual management but offers more flexibility, for example, you can allow vendors to request payouts via PayPal or other methods. With Stripe Connect, all vendors are required to complete Stripe onboarding in order to receive payouts.
