Limit file size upload - super slow upload

We are building a site and are testing it right now.

There is an issue uploading files/photos to listings - it is super slow.

Only like super compressed images work ok - but larger media files (1-2 mb even) stops the upload process, ‘wheel of death’ etc…, you can’t submit listing when upload is in never-ending process.

It will be a problem for our coming users that are not experts in compressing images/media files.

Is there a way to notify users and stop the upload process if the file size is too large? Same as there is an error message if you try to upload more than 10 photos? So we avoid being in ‘limbo’.

Is there a plugin that fixes the process and compresses the photos/media files while/before uploading them?

(We have disabled all third party plugins… we also tried to upload the same media files on your guys’ demo site … it was a bit faster, but still slow…

(we have 512 mb host memory/ram)

Thank you for your answer.

We don’t want to limit the maximum number of images pr listing - but we want to limit the maximum size of them, so everything goes smooth. Is there a way to do so?
