Hey,
I know there’s been previous Feature Requests regarding improving account security, and the logging in process by implementing a 2FA system into HivePress.
However, I’d like to throw some similar suggestions out there that I think would also be really nice features to add at somepoint, and/or compliment the 2FA integration.
1. Magic Link Login (Passwordless Email Login)
The Feature: Allow users to enter their registered email address or username on the login form and choose a “Send Magic Link” option instead of a password. HivePress would then email them a secure, time-sensitive, single-use link that logs them in instantly upon clicking.
- Why it matters: It drastically reduces login friction for users who forget passwords, eliminates password-reset support requests for site administrators, and prevents brute-force password attacks.
2. Biometric Authentication / Passkeys (WebAuthn Support)
The Feature: Allow users to register and manage biometric data (like Apple Touch ID/Face ID, Windows Hello, or Android fingerprint sensors) directly within their HivePress account dashboard. On subsequent visits, they can log in seamlessly using their device’s native biometrics.
- Why it matters: This brings HivePress sites up to modern web standards (Passkeys/WebAuthn). It provides elite-tier security while making the login process near-instantaneous for returning users, especially on mobile devices where typing credentials can be cumbersome.
I might have a go at trying some of this with the help of AI soon, but I haven’t got a huge amount of spare time at the moment.
Cheers,
