Slow image upload

It seems that there is a known issue with the image uploads, they are taking very long time to load onto the website.
I have tried modifying the php.ini and .htaccess on the server side but nothing changes the upload speed. I also tried to replicate it on your Rentalhive demo page, and it was exactly the same.
For a 7 Mb image it takes around 30 seconds or more to load.

Do you have an idea of how this can be solved?
