What is currently the best way to allow a listing to have multiple catagories on the front and backend?

I have seen multiple posts on how to do this and i have also heard that this will be possible with the latetest version of the listing hive theme.

However for now i wonder: what is currently the best way to allow a listing to have multiple catagories on the front and backend?
